Tacos La Bamba - Beaumont, Texas
Pork was never my choice of meat. As of the past year though, I’ve been in love with shredded pork. Especially in mexican and asian food. I was recently told that Tacos La Bamba had the best Al Pastor tacos. Of course I had to try them out. I have had my own fair share but never any that just blew me away. I got one Al Pastor and one chicken taco of some sort, I don’t remember. Man, when I saw these tacos, I could tell they were going to be good. The meat was so juicy and greasy. Of course you had to put all the extra goodies on them as well, but the al pastor definitely didn’t need it. This taco was what got me into eat more pork. It has, by far, surpassed all the others I have ever eaten.
Now, you can’t go there without getting corn in cup either. Shit is seriously fucking yum. I could eat a huge bowl of it. Also, they have homemade fruit bars that aren’t bad either. Oh! You can also rent some movies there if you’d like. You know, some people are into that.
I have to say, I went there the other night and the tacos weren’t all that great but when this place is on, it’s on! It was late when I went so they might have been getting lazy or something. Make sure you hit up the one on Calder though if you ever go through Beaumont and have a craving for pork tacos.
Banh Mi from Pho Van’s in Austin, Texas
This sandwich is so refreshing and spicy. Only $4 too. Who doesn’t love delicious fucking food for a minimal cost.
Red Curry - Alexandria, VA
I absolutely love going to Alexandria. It is filled with some of the most beautiful buildings and history i’ve ever seen. Of course it’s a little posh feeling but so worth going to to just walk around. The boardwalk is great as well. I try to never miss the chance to go down there when I am on the East Coast. The weather was not great that day. Rainy rainy all day long. Kind of miserable actually when you are trying to keep your hair and makeup straight. While I was waiting for my shoot I made a trip to Mt. Vernon where George Washington’s house is. It was actually really amazing. The view from his house in the back toward the river was beautiful. Really serene with all the rocking chairs as well. I wish I had the time to have looked around the rest of the plantation. Man, I sure do love history sometimes. I know it never sunk in it school. I am just so much more a hands on and visual person. Would much rather see and hear about it in person than have to read it in a book. Anyway, after my shoot, my friend Girard and I randomly and last minute, went to Red Curry. Decent sushi. Definitely not the best I ever had but I was starving and had a three hour drive back to Philly. Which was actually longer due to traffic and pouring down rain. Needless to say it didn’t hold me over. Oh well. Can’t pass up sushi sometimes.
Westville - Chelsea, NYC
Lemon Pepper Chicken Salad, tomatoes and lettuce on a baguette.
Spent the weekend in NYC with my friends Alysha and Art. Had some shoots hung out with some new people. Dancing was envolved of course. I really love spending time with Art. He always takes me to the most delicious and amazing restaurants. Today was my last day in NYC and after Art and I failed to shoot anything we decided to grab some lunch before I headed out. It hit the spot. I didn’t really start liking chicken salad until last year. This sandwich has to be some of the best chicken salad i’ve had. I always forget about baguette though. While I love them, they tend to ruin my enjoyment of the sandwich due the fact they squish everything out of what end when you bite into it. Makes it messy and hard to get a full bite or everything. The salad had this nice mustard vinaigrette or something on it. Was really tasty and tart. Needless to say this place hit the spot and super healthy. I always love good food that is also really good for you. Looks like they might have some amazing desserts too but I didn’t have the time to check it out. I’ll make another trip soon hopefully and come here again. Definitely come here again.
P.S. Art hates when I take his picture so I do so on purpose and post them for everyone to see.
